In Yield, a single head is enveloped in a veil with two warning signs placed in perspective ahead of the figure. These symbols represent the warnings for not heeding the advice and regulations that govern sensibility and respect of law and civil order. A single long line cast from the bottom of the sign at right represents the virtual online safeguard with the other illustrating the physical deterrent.
This work continues with the use of chalk pastels; a tedious and laborious process of rubbing the pigments into the surface of the support to create a uniform field that unifies the subjects of the work. Charcoal is used for the linework in conjunction with the light gray substrate to highlight the symbols and serve as a frame element for the composition.
This work has exhibited extensively and was featured in the movie, The Kill Room, starring Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie was shot in my atelier, Field Colony, in 2022, and this work (along with three others) was chosen by the Director to be hung in the gallerist’s office and shown prominently in the film.
