Evening I combines the techniques for mixing the palette on the canvas, first developed during the painting of of Congregation, Iris, and later Overhead, this painting looks further upward beyond the horizon at the kaleidoscope of colors; the changing natural light at the end of day.

This work was further inspired by the impressionistic landscapes of Monet that capture these conditions.
