Bricolage II, 2022

Bricolage II continues as the second in the series, after the completion of Daybreak III and uses it’s palette of matte blues and blacks on top of a primed canvas and placed within a white painted border.
Careful attention was paid to the arrangement and composition of the painting; building layer upon layer of alternating semi-rigid forms; originally mixed on a glass surface, resulting in a singular glossy side.
This painting, as with all subsequent paintings in the Bricolage series, serves not only as a testament to the process of painting, but also as a placeholder and time stamp, documenting the range of paints used in the preceding series.
In retrospect, I acknowledge the influences of both John Chamberlain’s sculptural painted steel works and Jackson Pollock’s intentional splatter paintings.
With the Bricolage series, I work horizontally, with gravity affecting the dispersion of the malleable paint draped and projecting from the surface of the canvas; until rehardening in place.
