Daybreak III captures the first light of day, a time when the possibilities are endless and the day is anew; an opportunity for realignment of values and endeavors. A diagonal form across the foreground symbolizes the paths of opportunity; discernible by closer viewing.

The horizon line is further represented by the shadow line created by the joining of the two panels; using the rule of thirds for the proportional composition.

Each landscape in this series is meticulously defined and layered with vivid blues and deep matte blacks layered atop and surrounding a textured ground; surgical paper tape adhered to the canvas.

I had acquired this tape from the hospital after a catastrophic fall resulted in multiple breaks. This life-altering event required months of physical therapy and disrupted sleep; awakening before dawn to witness the start of the day.

This reminder of rebirth is highlighted with the lighter blues (at left) that extend from the horizon; testament to further progression beyond the frame of vision.
