This work, Bricolage III, continues the Bricolage series, exhibiting the return to the use of the limited palette from 2019 with the inclusion of the matte blues first used in the Daybreak series. The timeline for the completion of this work stretched over months; each finished painting’s palette contributing to the density of its layers. The white painted frame surrounding the assemblage continues in this painting and serves as a boundary and system for the composition.

The placement and arrangement of each ‘peel’ of paint is carefully considered, resulting in a balance of both color and form.

Bright and bold colors of cadmium yellow (lt) and cadmium red (lt) with titanium white provide contrast and visual interest among the prussian blue and mixed blacks and browns that dominate the painting’s background.

Under direct lighting, sharp complimentary colored shadows provide additional layers of dimensionality and depth to the work; an additional palette that defines the surface.
