For Sunset, I began adding color in hues and tones representing a contextual and localized reference, after working with a restricted palette for the Daybreak series.
In dense urban residential neighborhoods, red brick townhomes flank both sides of city streets; limiting our peripheral vision and restricting our movements within a manmade corridor.
The sky visible above the horizon line in rural and suburban regions is more pronounced and is a direct contradiction to the slivers of natural light experienced in the city; especially at the end of the workday.
The horizon line in this work, resulting from the joining of the two canvases, further illustrates the proportionate reduction of the natural with the lower surface dominated by the dark glossy blues representing newly paved asphalt.
This perspective view from the street further illustrates the dominance and prioritization of the vehicle.
